One design, three interior looks: Grass from ReForm A New Wave

Danish West Coast ambience floating into three different hospitality interiors

The sustainable ReForm A New Wave collection in regenerated and regenerable yarn strives towards tactility on a functional and sensual level that encourages you to feel the patterns of the sand, the strict lines of the grass dunes and the rhythm of the waves crashing in. Inspired by the rough and untouched landscape of the Danish West Coast, Laura Bilde and Linnea Ek Blæhr translated their childhood memories of the coastline into a collection of carpets perfectly combining delicate largescale patterns in multiple yarn layers with dry and dusty tones from the coastal colour scheme.

With A New Wave, the three designs Sand, Grass and Ocean bring a sculptural yet soft ambience to the floor. The preferred choice of a number of architects and interior designers longing for natural textures and organic shapes, the collection beautifully fits into a selection of different spaces.

This article takes a deep dive into three hospitality settings adorned with the beautiful Grass design, exploring how one single design can create three very different looks.

Hotel Nordlandet – Nordic minimalism

The surrounding landscape of rocks, sandy beaches and the wild ocean inspired the decor of the rooms and apartments at Hotel Nordlandet. This very special hotel is located on Bornholm, the Danish 'sunshine island' in the Baltic Sea. The sounds and views of the ocean are incorporated into the ideas for the room designs creating individual multi-sensory experiences and promoting serenity. All of the rooms feature either an ocean view or a terrace and the interior décor is based on minimalistic Nordic style.

During a recent modernisation, the Grass design was specified to adorn the hotel rooms, corridors and stairways. With bright light pouring in due to the strict architecture, combined with elegant wall colours, wooden furniture and transparent curtains that sway in the sea breeze, the dimensionality of Grass is perfectly displayed. With a colour choice of mole, green or blue, the different carpet shades present a hint of artistry while staying true to the minimalistic visual frame. Gaustatoppen Sportell – sporty and modern

Gaustatoppen Sportell is located 2½ hours' drive from Oslo, the Norwegian capital city. Overlooking the majestic area of Gaustatoppen and only a ski stick away from skiing facilities and cross-country tracks, this hotel makes the perfect starting point for many kinds of outdoor activity in the fells.

Offering a selection of 15 double rooms, 12 family rooms and 6 suites, Gaustatoppen Sportell provides a quite intimate hospitality setting. The interior decoration draws on strong influences from the worlds of sports, nature and contemporary interior decoration to create a warm and subtle atmosphere that is out of the ordinary.

In line with Hotel Nordlandet, Grass is the preferred design specified as wall-to-wall carpet and rugs. However, the outside surroundings add a new and interesting twist to the design story while creating a just as impressive though quite different look.

Fanø Krogaard – an authentic design mix

A year ago, Fanø Krogaard was subjected to a substantial refurbishment in order to fulfil the vision of the new inn owners. While staying true to the proud tradition of uniting locals and visitors, the concept also aimed to bring the beautiful outdoor landscape to the inside of the picturesque inn through the choice of materials, structures and colours. To promote the charm and soul of the very special Danish island, Fanø, located just in the middle of the tidal flats, each piece of art and furniture was carefully chosen for its ability to create an authentic atmosphere, which led to an interesting mix of vintage, antique and timeless Danish design.

A beautiful selection of wall-to-wall carpet and runners now adorn the Fanø Krogaard corridors and stairways. In these small spaces, the Grass design fits perfectly, with its highly textured structure reflecting the lines of fascinating movement innate to blades of grass.

With the unique daylight that only exists by the sea pouring in through the windows, the multiple yarn heights and natural shades are all pervading when leading inn guests through the beautiful house. In addition, the soft carpet material plays a very important functional role in reducing noise from the corridors to adjoining rooms, which ensures a quiet and pleasant ambience.
